ABOUT

Mosaic Interactive is a cultural exchange project that resulted in a suite of interdisciplinary works that journey through the liminal spaces between past and present, waking and sleeping, human and spiritual. A team of artists from Morocco, Turkey, Indonesia, Palestine, South Africa and the U.S. created original works that journey through the liminal spaces between past and present, waking and sleeping, human and spiritual. These works premiered in March 2019 at the Big Ears Festival in Knoxville, TN, following a 3-week tour to East Kentucky and West Virginia, where artists built the pieces alongside community-led public events, dances, musical jams, and potluck dinners.

RESIDENCY & TOUR

Mosaic Interactive began with research, collaborations and workshops in Turkey, Palestine and central Appalachia over the course of a year.

The team then spent one month together in central Appalachia building the pieces, alongside community-hosted public events, such as music and dance exchanges, discussion sessions, educational workshops and community dinners. During the community dinners, artists led "Remedy and Recipe" exchanges with attendees, sharing wisdom on everything from how to bake an apple pie and brew healing tea to how to find and keep friendship.
